As fascinating as my musings on fiction undoubtably must be, I suppose they can't be all-consuming.

So here's what's been going on.

Our AC is broken. When it's on, it leaks foul-smelling (OMT=noisome) water onto the carpet. Hence, it has been off. And hence, our furniture is pushed to the middle of the room to allow Buildings and Grounds to repair it, which they haven't. So we have about a two foot perimeter of walking-space. And our shade is kaput. But that's another story.

I have to go jogging tomorrow. I hate jogging. With a passion. Ick ick ick. I have to get up early and run around and get way behind and be embarrassed and sweaty and icky and tired. And depressed, because the endorphins definitely are not functioning normally.

We went into Town this afternoon. There was this really neat little store we went into, sort of a curiosity shop, with antiques, old books, African masks, that sort of thing. Actually, it reminded be of nothing so much as Borgin and Burke's. The proprietor was elderly, and a little eccentric, it must be acknowledged. E. and M. were creeped out to the extreme, but I really didn't think it was so bad. Maybe I'm just oblivious, but I want to go back. Maybe when the shuttles start runnning.

Mainly, this is because I really don't want to drive with M. again. He's a very nice person, but I just did not feel safe. Probably because I'm a nervous passenger anyway, but he was swerving, and speeding, and ... I think there is an advantage to learning to drive in a city. One becomes a much safer driver.

And I forgot to buy band-aids. Grrr!

Actually, the opposite is usually true. Non-city drivers are less aggressive, because they don't have to be. They still speed, sometimes... but everyone does, no matter where they learn. Aggressive driving is useful sometimes, though, and occasionally necessary. For instance, it is very difficult to drive in Seattle if you're not aggressive, in addition to being the usual defensive driver you should be. It's possible to not do it, sure, but you give yourself some unnecessary headaches.

Exactly. I think that non-city drivers aren't as used to driving defensively, because there isn't as much need for it. And, when there are fewer cars, it doesn't matter so much if you're speeding, or going over the guidelines occasionally.
